The Short Version

I'm a Canadian from Saskatchewan who studied Communications and Political Science at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. After graduation, I wanted to travel but needed a way to fund it. So I moved to Thailand in 2015, got my TEFL certification in Chiang Mai, and started teaching English. That was supposed to be a gap year. It turned into a decade.

Since then I've taught across Thailand and China, survived COVID lockdowns back in Canada while counting down the days until I could get back to Asia, and have been teaching Montessori kindergarten in Bangkok since 2021. NomadAgent is the resource I wish existed when I first moved abroad — a place where you can get real data, real prices, and real advice from someone who actually lives here.

The Full Story

Regina, Saskatchewan
Born and raised on the Canadian prairies. Cold winters, flat highways, and a growing feeling that there had to be something bigger out there.
Concordia College — Moorhead, Minnesota
Studied Communications and Political Science. Learned how to research, write, and think critically — skills that ended up being more useful in a Bangkok classroom and building a website than I ever expected at the time.
2015 — Moved to Thailand
Landed in Chiang Mai with a one-way ticket and no real plan beyond "figure it out." Got TEFL certified and was hired by an English company contracted out to Thai schools. Taught an English program for 5th through 9th graders. Fell in love with the country, the food, the people, and a lifestyle that cost a fraction of what Canada did.
2017–2019 — Moved to China
Took a kindergarten teaching position in Huaqiao, Jiangsu Province. This is where I found my calling — working with young kids. Learned to navigate the Great Firewall (this is when NordVPN became a daily essential), picked up basic Mandarin, and experienced a completely different side of Asia.
2019–2021 — COVID. Back in Canada.
The pandemic sent me home to Saskatchewan. Spent two years working, saving, and honestly just missing Asia. The cold felt colder. The cost of living felt higher. I knew I was going back the moment borders reopened.
2021 — Back to Bangkok
Flew back to Thailand right as COVID restrictions were easing. Landed a position at a Montessori kindergarten in Bangkok — the same school where I still teach today. Settled into a routine: teach during the week, explore on weekends, eat street food every single day.
2026 — Launched NomadAgent
After years of answering the same questions from friends, family, and strangers on the internet — "How much does it cost to live there?" "How do visas work?" "Where should I eat?" — I finally built the resource I wished someone had handed me back in 2015.

Why I Built This

There isn't a concise place to get this kind of information. Search for "cost of living in Thailand" and you'll find TikTok videos from people who visited for two weeks, blog posts with prices from 2019, and listicles written by content creators who've never actually lived here.

People don't want that. They want real data.

Digital nomads, expats, teachers, and anyone considering the move need a place to get hard facts in one location. What does an apartment actually cost in 2026? How much will I pay at an ATM? What visa do I need and how do I get it? What does street food cost — not three years ago, but right now?

That's what NomadAgent is. Every price is current. Every guide is based on first-hand experience. No fluff, no filler, no recycled content from someone who Googled it from a desk in Brooklyn.

What Makes This Site Different

🎯 Verified 2026 Prices

Every price on this site is checked against what things actually cost right now. Not recycled from old posts. Not estimated.

🏠 First-Hand Experience

I live in the neighborhoods I write about, eat at the restaurants I recommend, and have gone through every visa process I explain.

💬 No Fluff

You won't find 500-word intros about "the magic of travel." Just the information you need, organized so you can find it fast.

🔄 Always Updated

Prices change, visa rules change, neighborhoods change. Guides get updated regularly to stay accurate.

Affiliate Transparency

NomadAgent earns money through affiliate partnerships with products I personally use every day. Wise for banking and ATM withdrawals. NordVPN for internet security — I've used it daily since my China days. NordPass for password management. for booking activities and hotels.

If you click a link and buy something, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I will never recommend something I don't use myself. That's not a marketing line — it's a rule. If a product stops being good, the recommendation comes down.
